The seven questions posed by this study in the abstract as well as the introduction are very interesting:

I'm in Gushansky's T/Th morning class, and he told us about this blog - so I thought I'd check it out.
ReplyDeleteRebecca, your article struck up some interest in me. My mom has been an RN for 25+ years. She works in triage for Sharp Rees Stealy (Nurse Connection) and is one of the two main Escondido School District nurses for elementary/middle schools. My dad is a retired pharmacist with over 30+ years experience. Both have been recommending, for the past three months, to beef up on Vitamin D-3, because that might help decrease chances of being infected with H1N1 (or help reduce the severity of it) and any other viruses or colds for that matter. I've been taking 2000 IU/day, and so has my husband. So far, I've only caught a slight bout of this season's flu, but my most severe symptoms (fever, chills) cleared up within 48 hours.
It seems to make sense that we'd need supplimental Vitamin D-3, especially in the fall/winter seasons, because our sun exposure is more limited during this time. Maybe that's why we dub this "flu season" - because of our limited, natural exposure to D-3.
Thank you for posting this article; it reaffirms why I'm taking this suppliment daily. I'll continue to do so, I and I urge others to do the same - it can't hurt! Besides, on a side note, I've noticed my skin is totally clearning up and appears more radiant. After tons of topical products over many years, I really attribute my skin's sudden improvement to my 2000 IU's of D3 a day. It seems to make sense...right?
FYI: We got our huge 600 softgel supply at Costco for $13.99. Each capsule is 2000 IU...so taken once a day, that will last one person about 20 months!
Kaitie, how interesting to hear your parents are recommending the Vitamin D. I bought a bottle of 365 drops last year for $15. Each drop has 2,000 IU's-what a bargain! (Maybe not as good a bargain as your Costco ones :)
